A2 CofC is required to fly Near People

The A2 Certificate of Competence is required to fly in the Near People sub-category, the Civil Aviation Authority says.

From Jan. 1, 2026, the Open A2 category is named Near People (A2). A Flyer ID is the entry condition. The certificate is valid for five years. There is no minimum age on the A2 page. The test is at least 30 multiple-choice questions, after self-directed practical training, awarded by a CAA-recognised assessment entity.

A UK2 or C2 aircraft, including Mavic 4 Pro, must stay 30 metres from uninvolved people, or 5 metres in low-speed mode. The remote pilot must not fly over uninvolved people. An unmarked aircraft under 2 kilograms in A2 stays 50 metres out.

What Flyer ID already allows

Flyer ID covers Over People and Far from People. C0 Minis and, through Dec. 31, 2027, C1 Air 3S can already fly Over People without A2. Mavic 4 Pro cannot. Without A2 CofC it flies Far from People: 50 metres from uninvolved people and 150 metres from built-up areas.
